I’ve been meaning to make this playlist for a while now. Ever since about two years ago when I rediscovered Kiss from a Rose and deemed it the Greatest Song Ever Recorded. It was then that I realized how much I adore nineties pop, how it reminds me of reading the weekend arts section of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on the carpeted floor of my childhood living room. Of drizzly Seattle Saturdays, gymnastics practice and elementary school spelling homework. I can’t help it. My mom had the radio on nonstop when I was growing up, so these songs tug my memories out and give me the warm fuzzies. And now, because I love you so, I share with you The Awesomest Playlist Ever, chock full of memories and nineties hits. I’ll admit that I threw in the Ricky Martin tune as a celebration of his coming out. Because all coming outs should be celebrated, if only through an overly cheesy playlist. And now, without further ado . . .

YESSSS. The very first concert I ever attended was Sheryl Crow (w/ Dishwalla as the opening act) at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. My dad chaperoned. He made me wear wax earplugs. ROCK & ROLL!!!!
This is so 7th grade Carpool!!!! ok maybe only 2 & 4 but I was trying to think of a song missing from this list and I couldn’t…well done my friend
Alexandra: NICE. And you know what? Wax earplugs are awesome. Because hearing is awesome. What a terrific first concert experience, eh?
Terra: Thank you! I want you to know that I worked very hard on this list, so I’m pleased to hear that you approve. Very pleased.
kylie,
i read this playlist at work and i ACTUALLY STARTED TO CRY. “kiss from a rose” is my favorite song of all time, ever. but that is besides the point. i am a huge sucker for nostalgia, and i am ALSO still in weepy-joyful awe that you and i have re-connected. the end.
KP: Do you know how very much i luuuuurve you?! We must be right on the same sappy/weepy emotional wavelength right now. Big big hugs.
